From the Web: Spanish philosopher and religious born in Valencia in 1705 and died in this same city in 1738. Priest who in 1722 graduated as a master of arts from the University of Valencia . He was also a doctor in theology and in 1731 he obtained the chair of philosophy at the aforementioned University. He published a treatise on Philosophy in four volumes written, under the influence of Gregorio Mayans y Císcar , in Spanish. The work includes a "Judgment" by Mayans himself, who was in charge of revising it. The second volume is dedicated to natural or physical philosophy. In it, Berni fundamentally follows the exposition of physics developed by Tomás Vicente Tosca in his Compendium Philosophicum . In logic, however, Berni separates himself from Tosca and prefers to follow the Epicurean doctrine through the teachings of Pierre Gassendi . Berni's work is part of the framework of the Valencian scientific and philosophical renewal of the pre-enlightenment period.
