- 12mo.(3.75" x 6.375") Quarter navy polished leather over marbled boards. Spine with double gilt rule bands creating compartments, gilt author/title to second compartment, double gilt rule to head and foot of spine. All edges lightly speckled brown, marbled endpapers. Minor edgewear, corners slightly bumped and rubbed, spine very lightly sun fded to a green/blue. Half-title and title poage in lack and red ink, engraved floral embellishments to start of each poem. Pages evenly toned. Overall, a very attractive book.

8vo.(5.75" x 8.25") 1806. Calderon, D.S. Estebanez. Madrid. En La Imprenta De La Viuda de Barco Lopez. Full brown treecalf leather, Spine with gilt author/title to faded gilt rule bordered red leather towards head of spine, four fancy gilt rule to spine as well. All edges reddened, marbled endpapers. Edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed, head and foot of spine chipped, with small loss to head, verticalfull length crease to spine. Both covers with minor scuffs to lower edges of boards. Text in two columns.
From Wiki: Serafín Estébanez Calderón (27 December 1799 – 5 February 1867) was a Spanish writer, best known by the pseudonym of El Solitario. He was born in Málaga. His first literary effort was El listón verde, a poem signed "Safinio" and written to celebrate the revolution of 1820. He was called to the bar, and settled for some time in Madrid, where he published a volume of verses in 1831 under the assumed name of "El Solitario." He obtained an exaggerated reputation as an Arabic scholar, and played a minor part in the political movements of his time. He died in Madrid in 1867. His most interesting work, Escenas andaluzas (1847), is in an affected style, the vocabulary being partly archaic and partly provincial; but, despite its eccentric mannerisms, it is a vivid record of picturesque scenes and local customs. Estébanez Calderón is also the author of an unfinished history, De la conquista y pérdida de Portugal (1883), issued posthumously under the editorship of his nephew, Antonio Cánovas del Castillo.
