"Sea Power in Its Relations to the War of 1812" by Captain A. T. Mahan, First Edition, published in Boston by Little, Brown, and Company in 1905. This two-volume historical study examines the role of naval power in the War of 1812, exploring maritime strategy and the influence of naval operations on the conflict.

Two complete octavo volumes (6" x 9"), bound in full blue cloth with gilt images of tall-masted ships centered on the upper covers and gilt lettering to the spines. Both volumes feature gilt top edges and black endpapers. Illustrated with 27 plates and 25 plans and maps, including five folding maps. The original dust jackets are lacking. Ex-library set from the Mercantile Library of New York, with library ink stamps on the title pages and elsewhere.

The set shows substantial wear consistent with use: bumped and rubbed corners with small losses to the tips, chipped and frayed spine ends with small losses, and lightly soiled boards with scuffing and color loss near the lower edges. The textblocks are shaken, hinges are starting with mesh visible, and some leaves stand proud. The black endpapers show evidence of sticker removal and marginal chipping. The half-title page in Volume I is split at the head of the spine. Some pages are rough-cut or torn; additional condition issues include closed marginal tears, dog-eared pages, light pencil underlining, and pinholes in two leaves of Volume II (page 346).

A historically significant first-edition set for collectors and researchers interested in A. T. Mahan, naval strategy, and the maritime history of the War of 1812.
