8vo.(5.625 x 8.875")1862. Goldsmith, Oliver. Philadelphia: Crissy and Markley. Polished tan calfskin. Spine with five gilt bordered raised bands, gilt author/title on gilt bordered black leather to second compartment, gilt rule to head and foot of spine. Marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Mild edgewear, corners bumped, slightly rubbed. Front and rear gutter starting at head, small split to front foot of gutter, boards still firmly attached. Prior owners name to top of title page (see pic), gift inscription neatly to front free flyleaf. A beautiful full leather book. Text in two columns.
From Wiki: Oliver Goldsmith (10 November 1728 – 4 April 1774) was a well-known Anglo-Irish novelist, playwright, dramatist and poet, who is noted for his novel The Vicar of Wakefield (1766), his pastoral poem The Deserted Village (1770), and his plays The Good-Natur'd Man (1768) and She Stoops to Conquer (1771, first performed in 1773). He is thought by some to have written the classic children's tale The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes (1765).
