Palau 52045 mentions: "With the good intent of perfecting the text of Cervantes' immortal work, the Royal Academy released this 4th edition under a different plan than the previous ones of 1780, 1782, and 1787. While those followed the text of the second printing of 1605, this one adopts the 1608 text, considering it as the author’s final will, since the previous editions were made without Cervantes' review or correction. It also includes notes from Bowles and Pellicer for the most important illustrations of Quixote. The plates were drawn by José Ribelles and engraved in copper: the first 10 by López Enguídanos and the rest by Blanco. The 5th volume contained the life of Cervantes, written and published in the original edition by D. Martín Fernández de Navarrete, a highly meritorious work that surpassed all known Cervantes biographies during the 19th century. For these reasons, knowledgeable booksellers, when offering a 'good Quixote,' recommend this edition."

From Wiki: Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (29 September 1547 (assumed) – 22 April 1616) was an Early Modern Spanish writer widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. He is best known for his novel Don Quixote, a work considered as the first modern novel.

Martín Fernández de Navarrete y Ximénez de Tejada, was a Spanish noble, grandson of the Marquess of Ximenez de Tejada, knight of the Order of Malta, politician and historian. He was a Spanish senator and Director of the Spanish Royal Academy of History (1824-1844). He rediscovered Las Casas' abstract of the journal Columbus kept, known as the Diario, of his first voyage. His principal work is the Colección de los viages y descubrimientos que hicieron por mar los españoles desde fines del siglo XV (Collection of the voyages and discoveries made by the Spaniards since the late 15th century), a vast work published in five volumes that Navarrete wrote by appointment of the Spanish Crown. As a result of this achievement, he has acquired the nickname El Marino Historiador (The Mariner Historian). Navarrete was a member of all the major Spanish and international Science and Arts Academies of his time.
