"A Practical Treatise on the Diseases of the Skin" by Samuel Plumbe, published in Philadelphia in 1837 by Haswell, Barrington, and Haswell. Based on the revised and enlarged London edition, this early medical work examines skin diseases in relation to their constitutional causes and local characteristics, incorporating medical observations and research recorded by British and Continental authors of the period.

Octavo (5.5" x 9"). 396 pages. Bound in full dark brown cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. The original dust jacket is absent. The binding shows edgewear, lightly bumped and rubbed corners, and ruffled spine ends with small closed tears and some beginning fraying. The text-block edges have scattered foxing, with additional foxing within the text, mostly in the margins and more pronounced on the first and final few leaves. Illustrated with four engraved plates, three of them in color.

Overall, a very good example of an early nineteenth-century medical treatise, appealing to collectors of antique medical books, the history of dermatology, and illustrated works on historical approaches to skin disease.
