Full green morocco, top edge gilt, blindstamped gilt vines with red & tan flowers on both cover, blue watered silk on loose endpapers; inside coverings doublure, both boards edges have 7/8" wide green morocco border with gilt stamped vines and 1 1/4" leaves in each cornor. The border surrounds red calf with centered cream flower with red leaves all of which is highlighted with stamped gilt outlines

Maynadier Ph.D. Department of English Harvard University, LIMITED HAND MADE EDITION #143/150 Copies, Limited for sale in America and Europe to One Hundred and Fifty Numbered and Registered Sets, of which this is Number 143. 8vo.(8.75" x 5.5") 12 Volumes, 1902 Limited Edition Set #143/150. Doublure Covers. Full green leather with very heavy gilt and inlaid red and gold leather floral decoration to both covers. Spine with four gilt decorated raised bands, gilt lettering of set title, Vol# to second compartment, gilt subtitle and part to fourth compartment, gilt "Hand-Made Edition" to foot with others having heavy gilt floral decoration centered to each compartment. Top edge gilt, others deckled. Navy moire fabric endpapers opposite a leather doublure endpaper with heavy gilt floral rule framing a centered white rose with green leaves, all gilt bordered, on a red leather background. Minor edgewear, some corners bumped and rubbed, some joints tender and/or with minor repair to hinge, some moire endpapers starting to fray at edges, Vol.V with small chips lacking to head (see pic). Foxing found throughout texts. Illustrated with several plates in two states to each volume, each volume with a hand-colored frontispiece as one of these states. A beautiful Very Good/Mostly Near Fine set of books.
