"The Complete Works of J. Racine," with the notes of all the commentators, Fifth Edition, published by L. Aimé-Martin with new additions, 1844. Paris: Lefèvre and Furne, Publishers. Complete in six volumes, 8vo (approximately 5.5" x 9").

The set is handsomely bound in quarter black leather over deep burgundy boards, with lightly embossed rules framing the boards. The spines feature four raised bands, gilt lettering to the second compartment, gilt volume numbers to the fourth, and elaborate gilt rules framing the remaining compartments. All edges are speckled brown with marbled endpapers.

The bindings show some edgewear, with corners lightly bumped and rubbed; a few boards have light rubbing or staining, and the extremities are rubbed. The first three volumes contain a total of 12 engraved plates. A handsome nineteenth-century French set of the complete works of Jean Racine, one of the great dramatists of French classical literature.
