Henry Thomas Buckle (1821–1862) was an English historian and intellectual best known for his ambitious but incomplete work "History of Civilization in England". His goal was to apply scientific principles to the study of history, aiming to establish laws governing human progress and civilization—essentially an early attempt at a “science of history.”
