A seventeenth-century scholarly Latin edition of the surviving works of Sallust, one of the principal historians of the late Roman Republic. His writings examine political corruption, ambition, conspiracy, warfare, and the decline of republican virtue, particularly through his histories of Catiline’s conspiracy and Rome’s war against Jugurtha. Edited by Johann Friedrich Gronovius with extensive scholarly observations collected by Antonius Thysius. For provenance, a bookplate of Thomas Williams, Dean of Llandaff to front pastedown.
