"The Lives of the Lord Chancellors and Keepers of the Great Seal of England, From the Earliest Times till the Reign of King George IV" by John Lord Campbell, published in London by John Murray in 1846. This First Series covers the lives and careers of England's Lord Chancellors and Keepers of the Great Seal from the earliest period through the Revolution of 1688, offering valuable insight into English legal, political, and constitutional history.
This is six of the eight volumes of the First Series (Volumes 1-5 and 8). Octavo (5.5" x 8.75"). Bound in quarter blue leather with generous corners over marbled boards. The spines feature raised bands and gilt lettering, with gilt edges throughout. Bookplates of Princeton University are present. The corners are slightly bumped, with minor rubbing along the upper and lower board edges. There is some chipping to the crown of the spine on Volumes I and III and minimal chipping on Volume VIII. Volume IV has a tear along the inner edge of the first free endpaper. Overall, a very good and handsome set with attractive period-style bindings.
