"The Romances of Dumas — Marie Antoinette Edition," by Alexandre Dumas, published by Little, Brown and Company in 1904. This impressive, complete 34-volume set brings together some of Dumas’s most celebrated historical romances and adventures, including *The Count of Monte Cristo*, "The Three Musketeers," "Twenty Years After," "The Vicomte de Bragelonne," "Joseph Balsamo," and "The Queen’s Necklace." Rich in French history, royal intrigue, and swashbuckling adventure, the collection makes a striking addition to a library of classic literature.

Octavo (5" x 8.375"), complete in 34 volumes. Handsomely bound in half burgundy pebbled leather with leather corners over marbled boards. Each spine features four raised bands, gilt lettering in the second and fourth compartments, and elaborate gilt floral decoration in the others. Additional features include gilt rules along the leather edges, gilt top edges, marbled endpapers, engraved frontispieces in every volume, and title pages printed in black, red, and green. Numerous pages remain uncut.

Condition: An attractive, largely clean set with very clean interiors. The bindings show edgewear and bumped, rubbed corners, some worn through to the boards. Approximately half the volumes have minor chipping and loss at the head of the spine. There is rubbing to the joints and raised bands, and Volume XXVII ("The Queen’s Necklace") has a dark stain to the upper joint with evidence of an earlier repair. Despite these imperfections, the set remains visually impressive, with richly decorated spines and handsome marbled boards—a desirable collection for admirers of Alexandre Dumas, French historical fiction, and fine leather-bound books.
